The Records Bureau maintains receives, maintains, and archives police records in compliance with City and Department policies and State law.
Primary Services
REPORTS (Crash Reports, Criminal Reports, Incident Reports, Calls For Service Reports…)
Contact the Records Bureau at (248) 546-2386 to make sure the desired report is available. Some reports may require a written Freedom of Information Act request or Subpoena. Charges for reports are subject to the volume of documents and the time involved to prepare in accordance with state law.
Draft Traffic Crash Reports (reports not approved for purchase on the state's website) are usually available the following business day from the Records Bureau. Traffic Crash Reports are available for online purchase within 7-10 business days and can be obtained from the MSP Traffic Crash Purchasing System at michigan.gov/msp (Select the TCPS tab) or CLEMIS Purchase Crash Reports at payments.clemis.org.
GUN PURCHASE PERMITS
Applications for Purchase Permits can be made between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A valid Michigan Operator’s License or Michigan State is required for application. There is a $10 notary application fee for an authority to run a background check. Purchase Permits are issued on the same day of application, provided the criminal history returns clear.
FINGERPRINTS
Fingerprinting services are provided by our Detective Bureau on Tuesday and Wednesday, between 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee per set of cards. A Michigan Operator’s License/State Id with a Ferndale residency listed is required. Residency bills or mail are not accepted. We recommend that you call ahead for print services on the scheduled days. Unexpected “law enforcement incidents” may interrupt the availability of the department's Detectives to perform printing services.
Fingerprinting Services are provided to the residents of Ferndale ONLY. We do not fingerprint Ferndale business owners who do not reside in the city or Royal Oak Township residents. Royal Oak Township is NOT under the City of Ferndale’s jurisdiction.

LOCAL POLICE CLEARANCES
Local background checks are performed to check for contact with the Ferndale Police Department ONLY. We do not check for contact with other police agencies or search for outstanding warrants. Arrest dispositions are not available through the police department. If it's a Ferndale case, individuals can seek dispositions from the 43rd District Court/ Ferndale located at:

PORTABLE BREATH TESTS (PBT)
There is a PBT Automated Breathalyzer Kiosk located in the lobby of the Ferndale Police Department at the disposal of residents and non-residents in need of PBT testing.
