Fireworks Regulations

The City of Ferndale follows a stricter ordinance than the State for fireworks usage. In 2019, City Council voted to reduce the number of days fireworks can be used in Ferndale from 30 to 12. On the following days, fireworks may be used in the City of Ferndale after 11:00 a.m.:

  • December 31 until 1:00 a.m. on January 1.
  • The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.
  • June 29 to July 4 until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.
  • July 5, if that date is a Friday or Saturday until 11:45 p.m.
  • The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.

Fireworks, firecrackers, and noisemakers are only allowed during the dates and times mentioned above. Use of these items outside the legally allowed timeframes is considered a violation of the ordinance and could result in a civil infraction. A violation of the ordinance—using fireworks outside of the legally allowed timeframes listed above—will be investigated by the Ferndale Police Department and can result in a civil infraction, punishable by a fine of $1,000 for each violation. If you experience an issue with fireworks in Ferndale on non-sanctioned days or after midnight (1:00 a.m. on December 31), you can report it by phoning Ferndale Police Department non-emergency at 248-541-3650.
