Wellness Initiatives

The Wellness Program aims to provide City of Ferndale employees and their families with programming that motivates them towards healthy lifestyle choices.

Fitness Rooms
City employees have access to two exercise facilities—the Ferndale Police Department gym and the Kulick Community Center workout center.

Weight Watchers at Work
Employees and their spouses may participate in the Weight Watchers at Work program, designed to foster healthy dietary habits and promote weight loss in a supportive environment. To date, our Weight Watchers at Work team has lost over 700 pounds!

Employee Assistance Program
HelpNet is intended to help employees deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their work performance, health, and wellbeing. The program features generally include short-term counseling and referral services for employees and their household members.

Paid Parental Leave
As of January 2016, the City offers a progressive new paid parental leave policy for its employees. The City will now provide 12 weeks paid time off for maternity, paternity, and adoption care leave—six weeks of existing leave allowance plus up to six weeks matched paid time off. For more information about the new benefit, see the news story.
