The City of Ferndale Launches Pay by Zone Parking

The City of Ferndale, the Downtown Development Authority, and the ParkFerndale Team are excited to announce a transition to a smoother, modernized, new parking system: Zone Parking.

What has changed?

There are minor but impactful changes to the upgraded Zone Parking system:

  • There are now approximately twenty zone numbers instead of hundreds of individual space numbers. Each zone number is four-digits and applies to a sizeable area.
  • New zone signage has been installed throughout surface lots and along on-street parking areas. There is also helpful ground-level signage with instructions and wayfinding.
  • New-and-improved kiosks are being installed with modernized and efficient software. Only cards and coins are accepted as payment. Cash is no longer accepted.
  • There are two new payment options - QR code and text message - that can be made with a smartphone. Scan the QR code on signs -OR- text "ParkFerndale" to 727563. Both will take you to a link to enter your license plate and process your payment.
  • Woodward will be a mobile payment zone along with some side streets. There will not be kiosks in these areas and parkers are encouraged to use the app, QR code, or text payment options. Coin payment can still be made at nearby kiosks found in the parking lots.

How does the public pay for parking?

Before paying for parking, it is important to know the vehicle's license plate number.

  1. Park in a Downtown Ferndale parking space.
  2. Locate the closest sign with the four-digit zone number.
  3. Choose ONE of the four easy ways to pay: the ParkFerndale app, kiosk, QR code, or text.
  4. Enter the vehicle license plate (if needed), zone number, and desired amount of time.
  5. Make a payment using a credit or debit card. Coins are also accepted at the kiosks.

Keep in mind that all on-street parking has a two-hour max. The dot parking garage on Troy street often has the most availability and the lowest hourly rate.

The ParkFerndale app, QR code, and text-to-pay systems are compatible with IOS and Android devices. If you already have the app downloaded on your device, please update it prior to use.

Despite the program kicking off in June of 2025, installations will continue for the next several months. Please note that older kiosks can process the new payment system.
