Property Tax Bills Extended to Wednesday, August 13, 2025

July 29 Update:

At last night's City Council Meeting, City Council voted to extend the summer property tax deadline from Thursday, July 31, 2025, to Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Please keep in mind that although the July payment is extended, the Sunday, August 31, 2025, payment will proceed on schedule.

Tax installment payment coupons can still be used. For a copy, please email taxbilling@ferndalemi.gov with your address or visit City Hall at 300 E. Nine Mile Road, between Monday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Lenders received payment information with no delay in early July. They do not pay property taxes individually. Instead, they send a batch of all local accounts they hold. Payments will still take 1 to 2 business days after the City receives them to show as posted.

On behalf of the City of Ferndale, we are so sorry for this mix-up. Thank you for your patience as limited staff members have navigated several hundred phone calls, emails, and social media comments.

The City is in the process of hiring new staff in the Finance Department to resolve this issue, meet customer service standards, and avoid errors like this in the future. Please reach out for any questions or concerns.

This information will be shared on the City's website, ferndalemi.gov, and mailed to residents who have a balance due.

July 25 Tax Bill Update:

Over the last several days, staff have been understandably inundated with calls and emails regarding mailed property tax bills and payment plan installment coupons. Staff members from various other departments have come together to collaborate on this effort as the City addresses the significant turnover in the Finance Department. We are actively resolving hundreds of voicemails and emails, and we can assure you that staff is following up accordingly. Thank you once again for your patience, and we are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience.

Payment plan installment coupons are still in effect for those on the payment plan. Please email taxbilling@ferndalemi.gov or visit Ferndale City Hall at 300 E. Nine Mile Road to obtain a copy of your coupons.

Don't forget there are other ways to pay your tax bill. Balances can always be viewed and paid at bsaonline.com/?uid=512. You can also call  947-282-5306, email information@ferndalemi.gov, or at City Hall by dropbox or at the front counter.

We will have follow-up information to share after the 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, City Council Meeting, so please stay tuned.

July 18 Tax Bill Update:

We have some good news—tax bills are hitting mailboxes as we speak. 📫

We sincerely can’t apologize enough for this inconvenience. Significant turnover in the Finance Department has contributed to the slower-than-ideal customer service. City leadership has recruited help from staff of other departments to assist. The onboarding process is also underway to welcome new team members that meet Ferndale’s customer service expectations—not only what you expect from us, but what we expect from ourselves as City staff.

As a quick recap: Tax balances became available on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. There was an unfortunate delay in the mailing of the paper tax bills, not the actual payment process.

Balances can always be viewed and paid at bsaonline.com/?uid=512. You can also call 947-282-5306, email information@ferndalemi.gov, or at City Hall by dropbox or at the front counter.

A payment installment option is also available. Please stop into City Hall or contact City staff to find out how to sign up and start receiving installment coupons.

All of this information is on the home page of the City’s website, ferndalemi.gov (click the Property Taxes button). It is also in every edition of the quarterly print newsletter. If there is anything we can do to help make this process more clear, please let us know!

Thank you again for your patience. If you have further questions or concerns, please reach out to information@ferndalemi.gov, call Assistant City Manager James Krizan at 248-546-2360, or stop into City Hall at 300 E. Nine Mile Rd. City Hall hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
