Downtown Ferndale Sidewalk Repair and Replacement

The City of Ferndale and the Downtown Development Authority are happy to share that sidewalks in Downtown Ferndale will undergo major repairs and upgrades over the next few months to enhance accessibility and navigability!

Most of the funding for this project comes from the Downtown Development Authority. We also received a $300,000 grant from Oakland County from Federal ARPA funds due to our Main Street Select-level accreditation. Since the grant money must be used by September 2026, we have worked to finalize the project’s scope and schedule. The wayfinding project is moving forward, and sidewalk construction will begin soon.

To keep things running smoothly, the work will happen in two phases:

  • Phase 1: South side of Nine Mile Road, from June 1 to July 31
  • Phase 2: North side of Nine Mile Road, from October 1 to November 14

We planned these phases to avoid major downtown events, starting after Ferndale Pride and finishing before the Woodward Dream Cruise and DIY/Funky Ferndale.

There will be some small changes to traffic, parking, and walking routes. Traffic will be one-way during the day and two-way at night. Most of the sidewalks will be usable while work is being done, just a little dusty. Thank you for your patience!
