City Councilmember Donnie Johnson announced his resignation at the Monday, April 13, 2026, City Council Meeting due to changes in his professional role. The City of Ferndale sincerely thanks Donnie for his service to the community and passion for public service.

A temporary City Council appointment is now open to fill the remainder of the term, from May 2026 to December 2027. The City Council will accept applications from Wednesday, April 15, to Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Applications will be reviewed at the Monday, May 11, meeting, and the final determination will be made no later than the Tuesday, May 26, 2026, meeting.

Per the City Charter, applicants must be at least 25 years old and have lived in Ferndale for at least 2 years. The application form also requires additional information regarding employment, education, and a brief biography.
