Mobile Food Vendor Inspections

To operate a food truck anywhere in the City of Ferndale, whether it is located on public or private property, you must be approved by the Ferndale Fire Department.

Requirements

To be approved by the Ferndale Fire Department, you must complete one of the following prior to operating:

 

1. Pass an inspection by the Ferndale Fire Department and pay the $50.00 inspection fee

 

2. Provide vehicle license plate, VIN #, Owner/operator contact information and documentation that you have passed an inspection by one of the following fire departments. Southfield FD, Farmington Hills FD, Royal Oak FD, Birmingham FD, Madison Heights FD, Bloomfield Twp FD, West Bloomfield Twp FD, Rochester Hills FD or Waterford FD

 

In addition, you must adhere to the following:

 

• You must be able to provide a copy of the kitchen hood fire suppression inspection report that has been completed within the previous 6 months. This inspection report should not show any deficiencies.
• If using propane or natural gas, you must have a flammable gas detector.
• Generators are not to be left unattended when in operation.
• Flammable liquids such as lighter fluid shall not be used.
• Cooking appliances must be supported on a stable, non-combustible platform.
• The Ferndale Fire Department reserves the right to inspect any food vendor operating within their jurisdiction any time they are in operation regardless of previous inspections.
