Water Main Break

December 30, 2020

*UPDATED* As of 11:10 AM on 12/31 water service has been restored and the main is repaired. Crews are currently working to backfill the site and traffic lanes will be restored by 4 PM.

A significant water main break has occurred along 8 Mile Rd. Underground pipes in the area are owned by Ferndale, Detroit, and the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA). After excavating the break this evening, the affected pipes were identified as belonging to Ferndale.

WHO IS AFFECTED?

Gardendale from 8 Mile to Marshall
*UPDATED* as of 9:20 AM on 12/31 to include Flowerdale from 8 Mile to Fielding

WHEN WILL WATER BE SHUT OFF?

Water in the area will be shut off tomorrow, Thursday, December 31, from 8 AM - 4 PM, as we work with a contractor from GLWA to fix the pipes.

IS A BOIL WATER ADVISORY IN PLACE?

No, a boil-water advisory is not necessary.

WHY IS THE WATER BROWN?

When water pressure fluctuates (as happens during a water main break), sediments often get stirred up and can make water appear cloudy or dingy. It's nothing to be concerned about; simply run your water for 5-10 minutes until the flow is clear.

WHEN WILL WATER SERVICE BE RESTORED?

Crews will make repairs as expediently as possible on Thursday, December 31. We will provide progress updates as available.
