Mayor Melanie Piana has signed the Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism initiative, led by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and The U.S. Conference of Mayors, which calls on mayors across the country to combat anti-Semitism.
This statement declares unequivocally that anti-Semitism is incompatible with the values of society, calling to condemn anti-Semitism in all forms, support efforts directed at eradicating anti-Semitism, rejecting the opinions and justification of anti-Semitic acts, recognizing the need for vigilant efforts to prevent and report anti-Semitism, and affirm a climate of mutual understanding and respect.
“We therefore commit to working within and across our communities to advance the values of a respectful coexistence,” the statement reads. “We call upon mayors, municipal leaders, and other elected officials in the United States and around the world – and all people of good faith – to join us in declaring unequivocally that anti-Semitism is incompatible with fundamental democratic values.”
