Legal Usage of Fireworks Cut From 30 Days to 12

March 26, 2019

On Monday, March 25, City Council voted to reduce the number of days fireworks can be used in Ferndale from 30 to 12.

On the following days, fireworks may be used in the City of Ferndale after 11 a.m.:

-         December 31 until 1 a.m. on January 1

-         The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days

-         June 29 to July 4 until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days

-         July 5, if that date is a Friday or Saturday until 11:45 p.m.

-         The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.

A violation of this will result in a civil infraction, punishable by a fine of $1,000 for each violation of the ordinance and no other fines or sanction.

Thanks to our Mayor and Council for championing this effort, and the Michigan Municipal League for advocating on behalf of cities over this issue.
