Some properties in Ferndale will experience a brief power outage on Friday, Sept. 13, as DTE works to transition electrical customers to their new substation infrastructure, located at Nine Mile and Hilton. The outage was previously scheduled for Thursday but was rescheduled following Wednesday's storms.
The transition is part of a planned infrastructure upgrade that will provide area residents with access to an upgraded electrical system and more reliable power. We are happy to report that this is the last such planned outage, and DTE's three-year changeover plan is nearly complete.
During the outage, power will be turned off for customers for up to three hours. Changeovers are scheduled by area/neighborhood; Friday's outage will affect the following two areas:
1. The area bounded by Leroy St. / Livernois Ave. / Hazelhurst St. / Pinecrest Dr.. Work is scheduled to begin in this area at approximately 9:30 a.m., and the interruption will last up to three hours.
2. The area bounded by Nine Mile Rd. / Livernois Ave. / Leroy St. / Pinecrest Dr. Work is scheduled to begin in this area at approximately 1:30 p.m., and the interruption will last up to three hours.
DTE reports that all affected electrical customers have received direct communication from the utility company about this planned work; the City's communication of this outage is an extra-notification courtesy. If you have NOT received this communication, or if you have additional questions, please contact the City's Community and Economic Development Department at 248-546-2363
