Ferndale 2020 Holiday Events

December 4, 2020

The holidays may look a little different this year, but the City of Ferndale, the Ferndale DDA, and the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce are excited to bring many safe, fun events to the community this holiday season.

Unbox the Holidays

2020 is the perfect year to ditch big box and support the local shops and restaurants that make Ferndale great! The new website allows you to shop for unique gifts online, buy gift cards to your favorite Ferndale businesses, find safe self-care options, or order amazing food for those days when you just don’t want to cook. When you shop local, you create more local jobs, keep more money within the community, reduce environmental impacts, and simply, keep Ferndale unique! Learn more at unboxtheholidays.com.

Unbox Ferndale EGift Card

Give the gift of Ferndale this holiday season with the all-new Unbox Ferndale E-Gift Card, powered by Yiftee. Purchasers can buy a gift in any dollar amount up to $250 and send it virtually to the recipient of their choice. Recipients can then redeem their gift card balance at ANY participating Ferndale business. For a limited time only, thanks to DTE and Level One Bank, if you buy one $50 gift card, you receive one $25 bonus gift card free! To purchase a gift card, please click here.

Legacy Days

Thanks to the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce and Universal Specialty Services, from now until December 18, there will be free local delivery within fifteen miles of Ferndale at participating businesses. The process is very simple. Shop online at any participating retailer before December 18. At checkout, select the “Legacy” shipping option when completing your purchase. Please note, orders placed between Sunday and Thursday will be delivered on Friday. For more information, please click here.

Best In Snow

While you’re out shopping for the perfect gift, whether in-person or online, cast your vote for your favorite “Best In Snow” display! The businesses of Ferndale are working hard to spread joy, festivity, and cheer by decorating their space in seasonal décor. Online voting runs from December 14 through December 27. Winners will be awarded in four categories, including “Best In Snow” (Best Overall), “Eat, Drink, and Be Merry” (Most Festive Outdoor Dining & Carryout), “Santa’s Workshop” (Best Window Shopping Display) or “Clark Griswold” (Most Over-The-Top Display). Please click here to view the event details.

Deck the Trees of Ferndale

Deck the trees of Ferndale! While supplies last, you can help decorate the trees of Ferndale with free, personalized ornaments. Registration is required. To register, please click here. Please limit registration to one ornament for each person in your household. Contactless pickup will occur on Saturday, December 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kulick Center. Drop off your decorated ornaments by Friday, December 11 in the "Letters to Santa" drop box outside the Kulick Center. Decorate your ornament with paint, photos, glitter, or any other creative supplies! The DPW Department will decorate the city with the ornaments all over town in the coming weeks.

Santa Parade

Santa Claus is coming to town! The all-new Santa Parade will take place on Saturday, December 12 from 12:00-3:00PM. He will be stopping at five locations around town and spreading cheer along the route. Santa's special sleigh will be pulled by the elves of the Department of Public Works. See Santa at a local park, or wave to him as he passes your house. Masks are required. Make sure to bring a poster with a few of the top items on your gift list so Santa can see it from a safe distance. Fore more information, including a full schedule of Santa's route, click here.

Gingerbread Journey Scavenger Hunt

Last but certainly not least, join the Ferndale Parks and Recreation Department for the Gingerbread Journey Scavenger Hunt, a self-led scavenger hunt in Ferndale from Friday, December 11 to Sunday, December 20. Riddles and clues will lead you around Ferndale parks and outdoor facilities to explore, crack codes, piece together puzzles, and solve mysteries! After completion, participants can submit their answers to be entered in a drawing to win a special treat. The scavenger hunt is free to all, but registration is required to participate. Register here.
