Compost and Yard Waste Pickup Returns

March 22, 2021

Curbside yard waste collection will begin the week of April 5, and pickups will occur on regularly scheduled trash days. Yard waste – including grass clippings, leaves, small sticks, and weeds – should either be placed in clearly-labeled, reusable containers or paper kraft bags.

Did you know that you can also throw light kitchen waste in with your yard waste? You can throw in your kitchen waste items such as fruit and vegetable scraps— peels, rinds, seeds, nuts, or other byproducts. You can also include clean fill dirt, potting soil, garden soil, wood shavings and ash, and untreated wood. For a full list, check out this guide.

Compost piles will also be available at Harding Park, Martin Road Park, Wilson Park, Geary Park, and in the parking lot of the Kulick Community Center in early April. Residents can also visit the DPW yard for early access to compost.

You are asked to bring your own shovel and maintain appropriate distance (at least 6 feet) from others while loading compost and follow guidelines for proper personal hygiene. If you feel sick, please do not visit the compost sites.

For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at: (248) 546-2525 (Option #3).
