Kat Bruner James received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Albion College in 2002 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2007. She has has practiced civil rights litigation since 2007, and she became a partner at Goodman Hurwitz & James, P.C. in 2017.
Kat grew up in the Metro Detroit area (Redford and South Lyon). She and her husband, Joshua, have lived in Ferndale since 2002. The couple welcomed their beloved dog to their family in 2015, and the family grew once again the following year with the birth of their daughter.
Kat’s public service activities have included: Treasurer and Volunteer Coordinator for Ferndale for Instant Runoff Voting in 2003-2004, Chairperson of Citizens for a Fair Ferndale from 2009 to present (on the Board since 2005), Ferndale Inclusion Network Planning Committee from 2017 to present, and the Ferndale Civil Service Board in 2019. In 2015, Kathryn was recognized as Ferndale’s Citizen of the Year. She was elected to Ferndale City Council in 2019.
