Certificate of Occupancy

On March 22, 2021, Ferndale City Council adopted an ordinance regulating Short Term Rentals (STRs) operating with City limits. The ordinance seeks to regulate Short Term Rentals by requiring annual registration and inspections. The STR Ordinance goes into effect on July 22, 2021, and will require all STR’s to register with the City. Registration and inspection services will be completed by the Ferndale Building Department.

Certificate of Occupancy is a document issued by the Community & Economic Development Department certifying a building's compliance with applicable building codes and other laws, and indicating it to be in a condition suitable for occupancy.

In Ferndale, the C of O is required when a new building is constructed, the use of a building changes, or ownership of the building changes. A C of O is not required when buying/selling a private residence.
