Youth Leagues And Athletics

The City offers Youth Leagues for baseball, softball, basketball, tennis and soccer. View the program information below, and find current and upcoming offerings in our course catalog.

YOUTH BASEBALL & GIRLS SOFTBALL

This is a recreation league that focuses on fun and skill development. Teams practice and play games in Ferndale, Southfield, Oak Park, and Hazel Park. Local leagues for this program include Baseball Tots (for ages 2 to 3 ½ and 3 ½ to 5½ ), Machine Pitch (for ages 6 to 8), and Pony (for ages 9 to 10). Travel leagues for this program include the Minor League (for ages 11 to 12) and Major League(for ages 13 to 14). 

 

A winter softball clinic is also held annually with concentrated areas on pitching, catching, and hitting, and defense and skill work. 

WINTER BASKETBALL CLINIC

The Skyhawks Basketball Camp will conduct sessions for ages 7-9 and 10-12. The clinics will focus on respect, teamwork, and responsibility, with a special focus on a “skill of the day” with various drills and games. 

YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE

This program services leagues beginning with U4, with additional competitive travel leagues. Practices will take place on various fields around Ferndale. Players will need to supply their own masks, cleats, shin guards, and water bottles. Jerseys will be provided. 

Youth Tennis

Tennis is a fun sport for the whole family! Tennis is more than just fitness- it teaches lifestyles skills like discipline, sportsmanship, self-reliance, and problem-solving. The classes are taught by Coach Chip Fazio, a USPTA-certified professional. Each Participant should bring a properly fitting tennis raquet and a water bottle. Racquets will be available for sale.
